The Relationship Between Various Physical and Mental Conditions in Middle Age and Dementia. (Single session)
Instructor: Chen Naijing
【Course Overview】
Dementia refers to brain diseases that affect older adults and gradually lead to problems with memory, problem-solving, or daily activities. Middle-aged individuals with certain health conditions or behaviors, such as high blood pressure, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, depression, low physical activity, or poor diet, have a higher chance of developing dementia in later life. These health conditions or behaviors can be classified as “modifiable risk factors” for dementia because lifestyle changes can reduce their impact.
Approximately 50 million people worldwide have dementia. Without sufficient preventive measures, this number is expected to double by 2050. Despite advancements in medicine, we still struggle with dementia, unable to find effective treatment methods, and can only focus on early detection and prevention.
Controlling risk factors in middle age may help avoid or delay the onset of dementia or alleviate its severity in the future. Preventive measures can assist individuals in selecting the most suitable lifestyle adjustments to address risk factors.
This course can help you initiate preventive measures early and gain a better understanding to assist family members around you.
